Portugal's National Ballet Unveils 2026‑27 Season and 50‑Year Anniversary Programme
The Companhia Nacional de Bailado (CNB) announced its 2026‑27 programme, which opens with “Desassossego”, a two‑part work inspired by Fernando Pessoa’s *Livro do Desassossego*, choreographed by Marcelino Sambé and Daniel Cardoso, running 22 Oct‑1 Nov 2026 at Teatro Camões.
The season also includes a new production of *The Sleeping Beauty* (11‑27 Dec 2026) by Ted Brandsen with Tchaikovsky music, a Portuguese premiere of *Carmina Burana* (Feb‑Mar 2027) by Edward Clug, and a children’s piece “Pedro e o Lobo” (3‑6 Jun 2027) by Andreas Heise with Prokofiev’s score.
To mark CNB’s 50th anniversary, the company will present “A Extraordinária Companhia – 50 anos de futuro”, choreographed by artistic director Fernando Duarte with original music by Edward Ayres d’Abreu, premiering 29 Apr 2027 (World Dance Day) and running to early May, accompanied by the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa.
The programme concludes with “Lightness and Darkness” (24‑27 Jun 2027), juxtaposing Michel Fokine’s *Les Sylphides* with Sharon Eyal’s *The Look*, and a series of streamed and touring performances aimed at national and international audiences.
