Portugal's Nationwide Transport Strike Scheduled for June 3 Over Labor Reform

The CGTP (General Confederation of Portuguese Workers) and UGT have called a general strike for 3 June 2026 to protest the government's new labour‑reform package. All urban passenger‑transport operators across the country have been mobilised, with pre‑notice notices covering the Lisbon Metro, Carris, Carristur, Transtejo/Soflusa, Fertagus, Metro Mondego, Metro do Porto, STCP and Comboios de Portugal (CP).

Union representative José Manuel Oliveira of the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans) said the expected participation is comparable to the large‑scale strike held on 11 December 2025. The labour‑law proposal, approved by the Council of Ministers and posted on the Assembly's website, contains more than 50 amendments, including 12 suggested by UGT, and is defended by Labour Minister Rosário Palma Ramalho. In addition to transport, the strike is expected to disrupt other public services such as health care.
