Portugal's Oeste Region Attracts Growing Number of Residents and Investors

The Oeste region of Portugal is experiencing a surge in property activity, with almost 6,900 homes changing hands in the last year – a rise of about 9% over 2024. More than half of these transactions were completed by foreign buyers, especially from the United States, Germany and France, while Portuguese purchasers made up the remainder. Buyers are drawn by larger homes, more outdoor space and lower prices compared with Lisbon, where average prices reached €6,107 per square metre in June 2026. The market is also seeing increased interest from remote‑working professionals and digital nomads seeking a balance of lifestyle and connectivity.

Meanwhile, on the Alentejo coast near Melides, the Apaulinha residential project is set to introduce nine uniquely designed houses spread across 12.5 hectares of cork‑oak forest. Each dwelling is tailored to its specific plot, avoiding repeated floor plans and emphasizing natural materials, cross‑ventilation and deep overhangs. Shared amenities include a central lake, a timber sauna, a communal courtyard and a modest bar. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026 with completion targeted for 2028, offering a low‑density, boutique‑hotel style living experience.
