Portugal's PM Montenegro urged to clarify Sines refinery future amid Galp-Moeve deal

The Central Committee of Workers (CCT) at Petrogal has publicly challenged Prime Minister Luís Montenegro to give a clear, public stance on the future of Portugal’s only oil refinery in Sines and on the pending Galp‑Moeve merger. The workers’ body cited concerns that the agreement, which would combine Galp’s refining and marketing operations with Spain’s Moeve, could jeopardise the strategic asset and Portugal’s energy autonomy. The association Sedes echoed the warning, noting that while Spain operates nine refineries, Sines is the sole facility in the country, making it essential for national supply security. Both groups urged the government to use its powers to safeguard the refinery and protect the jobs of Petrogal employees.
