Portugal funds heritage restoration and urban upgrades in multiple municipalities

Researchers have launched two archaeological excavation campaigns at the Roman Villa of Santa Catarina de Sítimos (Alcácer do Sal) between late July and August, involving municipal archaeologists, university volunteers and an international school of students.

The municipality of Santo Tirso is investing about €84,000 to restore the 18th‑century Fonte dos Cãezinhos and refurbish five ornamental fountains across the city, addressing stonework, drainage and electrical systems.

Santarém began the first phase of a €2.7 million project to revitalize a historic segment of its city wall and the surrounding public space, adding new river viewpoints, parking and improved accessibility.

Odemira issued a public tender for a €742,678 road‑works contract on municipal road CM 1229, aiming to repave the route, stabilize slopes and enhance safety in the Boavista dos Pinheiros parish.

Cantanhde’s Praia da Tocha marginal is set for a €1.68 million redesign, introducing permeable pavement, better beach access and urban furniture to boost tourism and pedestrian comfort.

Braga plans a €286,500 scheme to reconstruct the 18th‑century Capela do Areal, refurbish 1,350 m² of surrounding public space and convert Rua Pêro Vaz de Caminha to one‑way traffic, improving mobility and preserving historic fabric.
