Portugal's SNS fraud commission refers cases to prosecutors

The Commission to Combat Fraud in the National Health Service (CCF-SNS) has referred several cases to the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Auditors. These investigations involve matters related to public procurement and the detection of ‘anomalous patterns’ regarding the prescription and dispensing of medications and medical devices.

Presided over by Judge Carlos Alexandre, the commission began its operations in February following its creation by the government in late 2025. In its eight months of activity, the commission has processed complaints received via email and from public entities. The findings regarding the misuse of the system have led to specific recommendations for the targeted entities.
