Portugal's Tavira Plaza and Spain's Granada Offices Join National Climate‑Refuge Networks

The Tavira Plaza shopping centre in Tavira, Portugal, has been added to the national "Stay Cool" climate‑refuge network promoted by Turismo de Portugal. The air‑conditioned space will be open to residents and visitors during periods of extreme heat, offering a safe, comfortable environment as part of the country's climate‑action agenda and the centre's ESG sustainability strategy.

In Granada, Spain, the Subdelegación del Gobierno has opened two public buildings – the immigration office on San Agapito Street and the sub‑delegation’s registration assistance office – as free climate‑refuge sites. Both provide seating, drinking water, toilets and controlled temperatures, and staff have been trained to recognise and respond to heat‑stroke symptoms. The locations are part of Spain’s State Network of Climate Refuges, created to protect citizens as heat waves become more frequent.
