Portugal's Transport Authority Delays New Taxi Fare Rules

The Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (AMT) announced that the new general rules for setting taxi fares will take effect only 30 days after the decree implementing the new legal regime for electronic passenger‑transport platforms (TVDE) becomes active. The TVDE regime, approved by the Assembleia da República on 17 July, has not yet been published in the Diário da República. AMT said the postponement allows an additional month to analyse contributions from taxi associations and professionals and to avoid interpretative doubts or overlapping obligations.

The simplified taxi‑fare regulation, published on 3 June, introduces a lower flag‑fall, dynamic tariffs and transparency measures, and aligns taxi services with the forthcoming TVDE framework, permitting taxi licence holders to also operate TVDE services and allowing vehicles to alternate between the two modes.
