Portugal's VI Open Water Swimming Meeting scheduled for Aug 1

The sixth edition of the Open Water Swimming Meeting in Goma is set for 1 August at the Barragem das Andorinhas in Póvoa de Lanhoso, Portugal. Organized by the Grupo Desportivo da Goma in partnership with the municipal council, the event is sanctioned by the Portuguese Swimming Federation and will feature 500‑metre, 1 500‑metre and 3 000‑metre races, including an isotermic 3 000‑metre swim in neoprene as allowed by World Aquatics rules.

The competition will draw top national athletes and determined amateurs, with safety overseen by the local civil‑protection service and times recorded by an electronic timing system. The previous edition attracted more than 260 swimmers, and last year’s main titles were won by Hugo Ribeiro (men) and Helena Rodrigues (women). The venue recently hosted a triathlon that saw 320 participants, highlighting its suitability for high‑level aquatic events.
