Vasco da Gama has advanced to the semifinals of the Copa Sul-Americana after defeating Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe 2-0 at São Januário. Following a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Bogotá, the Brazilian side secured their progression with goals from Bruno Duarte and David.
Despite fielding a largely alternative lineup to manage squad depth during their domestic relegation battle in the Campeonato Brasileiro, the team managed the match effectively. Bruno Duarte scored his first official goal for the club in the 36th minute of the first half, and David doubled the lead in the second half with a header.
