Portuguesa police arrest man for alleged femicide of partner

Authorities in Portuguesa, Venezuela, have arrested 26-year-old José Antonio Cabriza Piña for the alleged femicide of his partner, 29-year-old Deilymar Carolina Gil Aguilar. The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, August 23, in the El Filito sector of Barro Negro.

According to police reports and witness testimony from the victim's 12-year-old daughter, a heated argument took place inside the residence. The teenager reported hearing screams and physical impacts before finding her mother missing. She subsequently observed the suspect emerging from a wooded area near the home. Following a search by family members, Gil Aguilar's body was discovered in a brush area.

Medical examinations conducted by the National Service of Forensic Sciences (Senamecf) determined the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia due to strangulation. The suspect remains in custody under the jurisdiction of the Public Ministry as investigations continue. This incident marks the third recorded femicide in the Portuguesa region within the last two months, prompting calls from rights organizations for increased prevention of gender-based violence.
