Portuguese airports expand digital services and biometric systems

Portuguese airports are implementing technological upgrades to manage increasing passenger flows and tourism growth. The car rental company Guerin is expanding its digital kiosks at Lisbon, Porto, and Faro airports. The number of digital rental stations will increase from 22 to 36, with a 75% increase in Lisbon and a 62.5% increase in Porto. Guerin reports that 82.6% of contracts at equipped stations are now completed via these digital posts.

Additionally, ANA Aeroportos is focusing on improving passenger flow and reducing wait times through government collaboration and technological investment. Starting September 6, infrastructure will implement 100% biometric screening for passengers arriving from outside the European Union as part of the European Entry/Exit System. While this presents operational challenges, officials expect these measures to enhance efficiency and control quality.
