Portuguese ambulance companies announce protest in Lisbon

The Portuguese Ambulance League (LPA) has announced a slow-moving protest scheduled for the 26th in Lisbon. Approximately 100 ambulances and other vehicles will cross the 25 de Abril Bridge to demonstrate against the economic crisis facing the patient transport sector.

The LPA stated that the protest aims to alert the government and the public to the lack of conditions necessary for companies to operate. Key grievances include the exclusion of patient transport from recent fuel subsidies, state-imposed pricing, and payment delays from the National Health Service (SNS).

According to the league, these companies provide essential services for thousands of citizens, including transport for chemotherapy, hemodialysis, and physiotherapy. The group noted that recent legislation providing fuel compensation to other sectors, such as taxis, has increased a sense of injustice among patient transport providers.
