Portuguese artists Maria Capelo and Pedro Paiva are being recognized for their distinct contributions to contemporary art. Capelo, a graduate of the University of Lisbon, has been exhibiting since 1996. Her work, which focuses on painting and drawing, is noted for its consistency and its ability to transform landscapes through memory and observation. Her pieces are held in several prestigious collections, including the Centro de Arte Moderna of the Fundação Gulbenkian.
In 2022, Capelo was the winner of the Prémio FLAD de Desenho, recognized for her innovative approach to revisiting landscapes.
Pedro Paiva, who studied in Lisbon and Berlin, explores the essences of matter and language to create a philosophical and physical universe. Following the conclusion of his long-term collaboration with João Maria Gusmão in 2021, Paiva has moved toward new creative processes.
