Portuguese athletes compete in international table tennis and surfing events

Portuguese table tennis player João Geraldo was eliminated in the first round of the WTT Champions Montpellier 2026. Despite being ranked 35th in the world, Geraldo pushed the sixth-ranked Taiwanese player Lin Yun-Ju to a full five sets, ultimately losing 3-2. The tournament, held at the Sud de France Arena, features a limited field of 32 athletes and offers significant ranking points and a $500,000 prize pool.

In surfing, Portuguese athlete Guilherme Ribeiro made a notable debut on the world circuit at Praia dos Supertubos in Peniche. The 24-year-old, a two-time national champion and current European vice-champion, reached the quarterfinals of the event. During his run, he defeated Kanoa Igarashi before being eliminated by Ítalo Ferreira.
