Portuguese Athletics Federation protests Norwegian runner in 5000m race
The Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) filed a formal protest following the men's 5000-meter race at the European Athletics Championships. The FPA alleged that Norwegian athlete Magnus Tuv Myhre acted irregularly during a duel with Portuguese runner José Carlos Pinto.
The incident occurred with approximately 500 meters remaining in the race, resulting in a domino effect involving Myhre, Pinto, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Pinto, who is coached by Gjert Ingebrigtsen, fell back in the field and eventually withdrew from the race.
Competition officials rejected the protest, classifying the contact as a ‘race incident’. While the jury dismissed the claim, the FPA stated the protest served to demonstrate their stance regarding contact that they believe exceeded standard racing incidents.
