Portugal police arrest man for child pornography possession
The Portuguese Judiciary Police (PJ) have detained a 42-year-old man in Ferreira do Zêzere for suspected involvement in child pornography. Following a home search conducted by the Leiria Criminal Investigation Department, authorities seized various electronic devices, including computers, hard drives, and mobile phones.
A preliminary analysis of the seized equipment identified more than 7,000 files containing images and videos of child sexual abuse, some involving very young children. Investigators noted that this number could increase as forensic analysis continues.
The suspect, who lived with a partner and two stepchildren, was placed in preventive detention following a judicial interrogation at the Santarém Judicial Court. He was previously serving a suspended prison sentence for identical crimes committed in 2022. The investigation, which began in November 2025 after the detection of shared illegal content online, is ongoing.
