Portuguese cinema events highlight regional history and industry growth

The documentary ‘Última Paragem’, directed by Daniela Almas, has been selected for the 32nd edition of the Caminhos do Cinema Português festival. The 42-minute film examines the 1985 Alcafache railway tragedy in Mangualde through interviews with survivors, family members, and professionals, aiming to preserve the collective memory of the event.

In Almada, the inaugural CineCarochas meeting brought together over 60 film industry professionals, including representatives from the Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual (ICA) and the Academia Portuguesa de Cinema. During the event, Rute Moura of the Almada Municipal Council announced plans to establish a Film Office by 2027 to support the local film sector.
