Portuguese Communist Party criticizes PS for aiding Chega

Paulo Raimundo, the Secretary-General of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), has accused the Socialist Party (PS) of enabling the Chega party to maintain a political 'mask' regarding the PSD/CDS government.

Raimundo stated that the PS's decision to support the viability of the 2027 State Budget proposal has relieved Chega of the necessity to facilitate the budget. He criticized the political dynamic, suggesting that the PS provides support to the government when Chega acts out, while Chega assists when the PS fails.

The comments follow recent legislative developments, including an agreement between the PSD and Chega to modify government proposals concerning urban rental regimes, as well as the government's approval of laws related to evictions and rent increases.
