Portuguese community in La Guaira seeks recovery support

Two months after the double earthquake on June 24, the Portuguese community in La Guaira, Venezuela, continues to face significant recovery challenges. The Venezuelan organization Dividendo Voluntário para a Comunidade (DVC) has called for sustained support and monitoring to assist the community through the reconstruction process.

Ramón Ostos, president of the DVC and director at KPMG Venezuela, emphasized that reconstruction must focus on building better and more resilient structures than those destroyed. He noted that the Portuguese community, which is particularly active in the agricultural sectors of Carayaca and El Junquito, has demonstrated resilience and optimism despite the tragedy. Ostos highlighted the importance of continued attention to these communities, including Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian residents, as the immediate news coverage of the disaster fades.
