Portuguese conferences address housing rights and historical identity
Various cultural and educational conferences are taking place in Portugal to address social and historical issues. In Ponta Delgada, the Faith and Culture Commission of the Catholic Institute of Culture, in partnership with Ponta Delgada – Portuguese Capital of Culture, will host a roundtable on October 15. The event features architects Helena Roseta and Nuno Costa alongside professor Fernando Diogo to discuss the right to dignified housing, urban challenges, and the impact of rising costs, tourism, and real estate pressure on social equality.
In Funchal, the National Association of Teachers – Madeira Section held the second edition of the Funchal Education Conference. Historian Manuel Rosa presented research questioning the traditional narrative regarding the identity of Christopher Columbus, suggesting a significant connection to Portugal and Madeira. The initiative aims to encourage critical thinking and connect the educational community with historical research.
