Portuguese cultural traditions celebrated in Ponte de Lima and Vila Real
Ponte de Lima has launched its Feiras Novas celebrations, marking a significant 200th anniversary of the event. Running until September 14, the festivities include music, culture, and a traditional fireworks display scheduled for the night of September 12 in the town's historic center.
In Vila Real, the romaria of Nossa Senhora da Pena continues its long-standing tradition. The event features a massive religious float, known as the andor da Senhora da Pena, which measures 23 meters in height and weighs approximately three tons. Carrying the structure requires more than 100 people for the one-kilometer procession. The tradition, which is part of the National Inventory of Immaterial Cultural Heritage, is expected to draw between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors.
