Stade Rennais ramps up summer transfer activity with Mayenda target and Oliveira signing

Stade Rennais is actively shaping its squad for the 2026‑27 season. The club has identified South African striker Eliezer Mayenda, 24, as a priority target, estimating a fee of €10‑12 million to replace a fragile attack after finishing sixth in Ligue 1. Mayenda impressed with three goals in ten matches for Kaizer Chiefs and is expected to provide versatility and goal‑scoring potential.

Rennes is also monitoring Egyptian midfielder Emam Ashour, who attracted attention with a standout performance for Egypt against Belgium at the World Cup. Valued at around €4 million, Ashour could add creativity to Rennes’ midfield if the club moves to secure him.

In addition, the club confirmed the permanent signing of 19‑year‑old Portuguese defender Gonçalo Oliveira from Benfica for €3.5 million, with a buy‑back clause retained by the Portuguese side. The defender, a product of Benfica’s youth system, had featured for the B team and youth national sides.

These moves join recent arrivals Adrien Thomasson and Issa Soumaré, underscoring Rennes’ intent to strengthen across the pitch and compete domestically and in European competition.
