Portuguese Dioceses announce pastoral programs for Advent and Christmas 2026

The Diocese of Guarda and the Diocese of Porto have unveiled their respective pastoral dynamics for the 2026 Advent and Christmas seasons, both framed within a synodal context.

The Diocese of Guarda has introduced the theme “Avançamos na Esperança” (Advancing in Hope). This initiative aims to foster faith, communion, and mission through an eight-step symbolic journey using stones to represent a path toward Christ. The program focuses on strengthening ties between families and communities while translating hope into concrete missionary actions, such as solidarity and service.

Similarly, the Diocese of Porto has presented the “Caminhada Até que Cristo seja formado em nós!” (Walk Until Christ is Formed in Us!) program. Running from late November 2026 to January 2027, the itinerary uses liturgical themes to encourage Christian formation. The proposal emphasizes the importance of the Eucharist and Sunday celebrations as central tools for fostering participation, responsibility, and mission within the church.
