Portuguese Environment Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho Receives Coimbra's Key of Honor
Environment and Energy Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho was awarded the Key of Honor of the City of Coimbra during a solemn ceremony marking Coimbra City Day. The award recognised the government’s support to the municipality during the severe storms and floods that hit Coimbra, Montemor‑o‑Velho and Soure earlier in the year. In her speech, Carvalho highlighted the joint effort of local authorities, civil protection, residents and agricultural and industrial groups in preventing and responding to the floods, and praised the cooperation that enabled rapid repairs to the Mondego river dikes.
Coimbra Mayor Ana Abrunhosa also announced the first Central Region Leaders Conference, to be co‑organised by the city council later this year, aiming to bring CEOs of the region’s largest companies together with public institutions.
The ceremony also presented several municipal honours, including the Medal of the City (Gold) to 11 personalities.
