Portuguese film premieres scheduled in Famalicão and Santarém

The film ‘Memórias do Cárcere’, directed by Sérgio Graciano, is set for its national premiere on September 22 at the Casa das Artes in Vila Nova de Famalicão. Inspired by the work of Camilo Castelo Branco, the film explores the intense period in 1860 when the writer and Ana Plácido were imprisoned in Porto. The project, sponsored by the Municipality of Famalicão, commemorates the bicentenary of Castelo Branco's birth and features filming locations in the region, including the Casa de Camilo in S. Miguel de Seide.

In Santarém, the Teatro Sá da Bandeira will host a screening of João Nicolau’s film ‘A Providência e a Guitarra’ on September 9. The 125-minute film follows traveling artists Léon and Elvira Berthelini whose journey spans from a historical setting to the 21st century, involving themes of art, love, and social security.
