Portuguese firefighters compete in endurance challenges

Firefighters from across Portugal participated in two endurance challenges designed to simulate real-world emergency conditions. The “Só para Bravos” challenge, held in Entroncamento, featured a 1.5-kilometer course where 171 participants competed wearing full forest firefighting personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets, gloves, and fire shelters. Of the participants, 122 successfully completed the course.

Additionally, the “Caminho das Voltinhas 2026” event took place in Machico, Madeira. This competition required 104 participants to climb approximately 500 meters with a 100-meter positive elevation gain in the shortest time possible while wearing full firefighting PPE.
