Portuguese firefighters receive national election and municipal honors

João Maduro, commander of the Mira Volunteer Firefighters, has been elected to the National Council of the Portuguese Firefighters League. Representing the Coimbra District Firefighters Federation, Maduro's election follows a proposal by the Federation's leadership. The Mira Volunteer Firefighters Association noted that the appointment recognizes his professional merit and provides the Mira community with representation in national decision-making regarding the defense and valuation of Portuguese firefighters.

In a separate recognition of service, the Miranda do Corvo Municipal Council has approved the awarding of the Municipal Gold Medal to the Miranda do Corvo Volunteer Firefighters Association. The distinction marks the institution's 80th anniversary since its founding in 1946. The award honors the association's long-standing contributions to emergency pre-hospital care, rural fire fighting, and civil protection across the municipalities of Miranda do Corvo, Vila Nova, Lamas, Semide, and Rio de Vide.
