Académico de Viseu defeats Sporting CP 2-1 in Primeira Liga

Académico de Viseu secured a 2-1 victory against Sporting CP at the Estádio José Alvalade during the ninth round of the Primeira Liga. The win marks a significant result for the Viseu-based side, which has performed above expectations following its return to the top division.

Sporting CP coach Rui Borges expressed frustration following the match, citing a lack of confidence and an inability to convert scoring opportunities. Borges noted that the team struggled with decision-making in the final third and was unsettled after conceding early goals during counter-attacks and long balls. He acknowledged the dissatisfaction of the home supporters, stating that such reactions are natural given the pressure at a major club.

The defeat comes at a critical time for Sporting CP as they attempt to maintain their position in the title race, following recent inconsistent performances in both domestic and European competitions.
