Portuguese Government requests more details on new Lisbon airport project

The Portuguese Government, through the Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure and Housing, has requested additional details from ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal regarding the development of the new Lisbon airport, planned for the Luís de Camões site in Alcochete.

In response to a technical report submitted in July, the Executive requested clarification on several key areas, including demand evolution scenarios to test the robustness of the airport's sizing. The government specifically seeks more information on runway configuration and taxiway networks to ensure full compatibility with Code F aircraft, which have wingspans between 65 and 80 meters.

A significant point of contention involves the terminal strategy. While previous plans included the possibility of a second terminal or a satellite terminal to accommodate future growth, the latest technical report proposes only a single terminal. The government has asked ANA to justify this decision and present a clear scalability strategy, including the necessary pre-installations for future expansions. The government also expressed interest in working with the concessionaire to potentially accelerate the 2037 operational deadline.
