Porto and Aveiro claim top honors at 2026 Festa do Andebol in Lagoa
The 2026 Festa do Andebol, a four‑day national U‑14 handball festival, concluded in Lagoa with the Association of Handball of Porto winning the men's title and the Association of Handball of Aveiro taking the women's championship. The event featured 23 regional selections—11 women’s and 12 men’s teams—bringing together roughly four hundred young athletes from across Portugal.
In the men’s final, Porto defeated Braga 30‑20, building an early three‑goal lead and maintaining superiority throughout the three periods to win by ten goals. In the women’s final, Aveiro overcame Lisbon 30‑21, establishing a four‑goal advantage early and holding on despite a late Lisbon surge. Individual stand‑outs were highlighted with a new “7 Ideal” award recognizing the tournament’s best performers.
The festival also served a developmental purpose, combining competition with training and camaraderie, and reinforced the sport’s growing grassroots base in the country.
