Portuguese judokas conclude World Championships in Baku

Portuguese judokas concluded their participation at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, without securing medals.

In the -78 kg category, Patrícia Sampaio finished in fifth place. After securing three victories, she was defeated in the semi-finals by Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko via armbar (juji gatame). Sampaio subsequently lost the bronze medal match to Japan's Kurena Ikeda, who scored a yuko during the bout. Sampaio noted that her opponents were more patient and effective in their timing.

In the +78 kg category, Rochele Nunes faced elimination in her opening match against China's Jinesinuer Ayman. Despite showing agility, Nunes was unable to secure grips against her heavier opponent. Ayman scored a waza-ari and followed up with an osaekomi (immobilization) on the ground to secure the ippon victory.
