Portuguese Municipal Programs Boost Intergenerational Learning and Creativity

The Municipal Library António Francisco Barata in Góis organized an intergenerational workshop where children from the local youth centre and senior participants built cardboard bracelets, used rulers and measuring tapes to explore practical mathematics, and shared traditional craft knowledge through volunteer Helena Sousa. The activity aimed to strengthen community bonds, promote hands‑on learning and celebrate local cultural heritage.

In Cantanhede, the "Tardes Comunitárias" project marked its 12th anniversary with a calendar of events beginning on 23 September. Planned activities include outdoor aerobic Zumba, a climate‑change lecture, a session on media literacy and artificial‑intelligence impacts, a book presentation, museum and forest visits, and a November magusto. The programme seeks to give seniors over 55 more social interaction, personal fulfillment and opportunities to share life experience, encouraging active participation in cultural and recreational pursuits.
