Portuguese municipalities announce 2027 tax relief measures

Municipalities in Portugal are implementing fiscal policies for 2027 aimed at supporting families and local businesses through tax reductions and exemptions.

In Santa Maria da Feira, the City Council approved proposals to extend the IMI (Municipal Property Tax) exemption from three to five years for eligible properties. This measure applies to properties with a tax patrimonial value up to 125,000 euros, provided the household's gross income does not exceed 153,300 euros. Additionally, the municipality will eliminate the 'derrama' (municipal surtax) for companies with an annual turnover of up to 150,000 euros. These changes are estimated to reduce municipal revenue by approximately 660,000 euros.

Valença has also announced its 2027 fiscal policy, maintaining municipal rates at legal minimums. The municipality will keep the IMI rate at 0.3% for urban buildings and 0.8% for rustic buildings. It will continue the 'IMI Familiar' program, offering tax deductions of 30, 70, or 140 euros based on the number of dependents. Valença also maintains a 0.5% surtax for companies with turnovers below 150,000 euros and a 3% bonus for the Variable Participation in IRS to support taxpayers.
