Portuguese municipalities approve 2027 municipal tax rates
Municipalities in Portugal have approved their tax rates for 2027, focusing on maintaining stability for families and local businesses.
In Cantanhede, the municipal council voted to keep the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) at 0.38% for urban buildings. The municipality will also continue tax benefits for families with dependents, providing deductions of 30 euros for one dependent, 70 euros for two, and 140 euros for three or more. Additionally, small businesses with an annual turnover of up to 150,000 euros will remain exempt from the Derrama tax, while the rate for larger companies stays at 1.5%. These measures are estimated to result in a revenue reduction of over 2.4 million euros annually.
Sintra has also decided to maintain its primary municipal tax rates for 2027. The IMI rate will be set at 0.30%, which is the legal minimum for urban buildings. The municipality will maintain its 3.5% variable share of Personal Income Tax (IRS). Regarding the Derrama tax, the rate remains at 1.5% for companies with a turnover exceeding 150,000 euros, while those below this threshold remain exempt to support the local business fabric.
