Portuguese municipalities approve local infrastructure and education funding

Municipalities in Portugal have approved new funding allocations for local infrastructure and education.

The Viana do Castelo City Council approved 132,800 euros to support various parishes. This includes 81,000 euros for mobility and road safety, with 31,000 euros designated for street requalification and lighting in Mazarefes, and 50,000 euros for drainage system interventions in the Union of Parishes of Geraz do Lima and Deão. The municipality aims to continue a strong investment policy, dedicating over 9.46 million euros in the 2026 budget to improve road safety and quality of life through various construction and requalification projects.

In Entroncamento, the City Council approved an additional 5,000 euros to support the acquisition of workbooks for primary school students. This increases the total support limit for the 2026/2027 school year to 35,298 euros. The decision follows an increase in the number of students in the first cycle. Additionally, the municipality is planning to introduce a “commerce voucher” to support students in the second cycle.
