Portuguese municipalities expand local educational initiatives

Municipalities in Portugal are expanding educational initiatives to integrate local resources into school curricula. In Ponte de Lima, the municipality is reinforcing its ‘Hortas Pedagógicas’ (Pedagogical Gardens) project. This initiative involves training operational assistants to support students in learning about sustainability, healthy eating, and nature through practical, hands-on experience in school gardens.

In Braga, the municipality has released an Educational Projects Guide for the 2026/2027 school year, offering 597 diverse proposals. These initiatives aim to turn the city into an extension of the classroom, covering various educational cycles from pre-school to secondary and professional education. The projects span 22 intervention areas, including environmental sustainability, culture, citizenship, health, and financial literacy, utilizing municipal services and facilities to complement traditional schoolwork.
