Portuguese municipalities expand nautical tourism and sports infrastructure

Municipalities in Portugal are expanding nautical infrastructure and programming to promote regional tourism and sports.

In Castelo Branco, the local government is consolidating its Nautical Station, a strategic project that integrates three water bodies: the Ponsul River (Cais de Lentiscais), the Marateca Reservoir (Santa Águeda), and the Pisco Reservoir (São Vicente da Beira). The certified infrastructure aims to balance leisure with environmental protection, such as limiting motorboat use in the Tejo International Natural Park. The project currently involves 46 partners.

In Macedo de Cavaleiros, the Azibo Nautical Center is launching regular programming open to the public. This initiative aims to encourage year-round use of the Azibo Reservoir for activities like sailing and canoeing. The schedule includes monthly sessions for the general public and weekly activities specifically designed for children aged 8 to 14.
