Portuguese municipalities fund new emergency vehicles for firefighters

Municipalities in Portugal are providing new operational vehicles to local volunteer firefighter associations to enhance emergency response capabilities.

In Boticas, the municipality allocated 46,000 euros to the Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Boticas for a new ambulance. This vehicle replaces an eight-year-old unit that had reached its age limit, ensuring continued service within the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIEM).

In Lagoa, the Bombeiros Voluntários de Lagoa received a new rural fire combat vehicle through the Algarve 2030 Regional Program. This acquisition is part of a larger 969,900 euro investment in operational vehicles for the municipality, which includes 549,000 euros in funding from the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). The new vehicle replaces a unit that had been in service for 28 years. This initiative is part of a broader regional effort to fund 66 operational vehicles across the Algarve to mitigate risks associated with rural fires.
