Portuguese municipalities launch education support initiatives

Municipalities in Portugal are implementing new initiatives to support the education sector. In Ponte de Lima, the local government is investing approximately one million euros to modernize technological infrastructure in schools. Funded in part by the NORTE 2030 program, the project includes the installation of high-definition interactive panels, 345 computers, robotics and programming kits, and upgraded Wi-Fi access points to create “Classrooms of the Future.”

In Arraiolos, the municipality has announced that school meals will be free for all students from preschool through the 12th grade, starting in the 2026/2027 school year. This measure, which affects approximately 600 students, represents a municipal expenditure of about 100,000 euros. Mayor Jorge Macau stated the initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on families and is part of a broader support strategy that includes scholarships and the provision of school supplies.
