Portuguese municipalities launch educational support for 2026/2027 school year
Municipalities in Portugal are implementing various support measures for the 2026/2027 school year. In Vila Pouca de Aguiar, the new academic year was marked by the 20th anniversary of the Pedras Salgadas Basic School, which is currently undergoing a 443,000 euro renovation. The municipality has invested over one million euros in kindergartens and is introducing a new Specialized Technological Center featuring training in mechatronics, electronics, automation, health, and gastronomy. A partnership with the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland has also been announced to enhance culinary training.
In Aguiar da Beira, the local government is maintaining several educational aid programs to reduce family expenses. These measures include free school meals, milk, and fruit for pre-school and primary students, as well as free school transport. Additional support includes free access to 'Escola Virtual' digital platforms, curricular enrichment activities in arts and sports, and free public transport passes within the Viseu Dão Lafões intermunicipal community. The municipality also provides merit awards and financial assistance for students entering higher education.
