Global communities celebrate International Day of Older Persons
Various communities across Brazil, Greece, Romania, and Portugal are holding events to mark the International Day of Older Persons, focusing on active aging and social integration.
In Brazil, approximately 90 seniors from Itapevi participated in a walking football program at the Museu do Futebol to promote physical activity and social interaction. Other Brazilian initiatives include water aerobics programs in Cuiabá and Chumbo Grosso to improve mobility and prevent falls, alongside discussions on the legal rights and health of the elderly population.
In Greece, the Municipality of Tempi hosted an event emphasizing the importance of social participation and osteoporosis prevention. Other Greek regions organized intergenerational meetings between students and seniors, as well as cultural excursions to Bitola and Ohrid to foster community bonds.
In Romania, over 300 seniors in Năvodari celebrated with a dance event to recognize their contribution to society. Similar commemorative activities and cultural programs have been reported in Oradea and other local centers to promote well-being and respect for the elderly.
