Portuguese municipalities launch student financial aid programs
Municipalities in Portugal are implementing financial support measures to assist students and their families with educational costs.
In São Brás de Alportel, the municipality will continue the ‘Vale + Educação’ program for the 2026/2027 school year. The initiative provides 25 euros per student, distributed in two 12.50 euro vouchers, to be used for notebooks and school supplies at participating local stationery stores. The program covers students from primary to secondary education enrolled in the public system and aims to support local commerce while easing the financial burden of the new school year.
Meanwhile, the Porto Santo City Council has announced an application period for financial aid targeting university students. Running from August 24 to November 20, the program is designed to help students attending higher education outside the island cover costs related to housing, food, and transportation. Mayor Nuno Batista stated that the measure aims to promote equal opportunities and prevent students from abandoning their studies due to economic difficulties.
