Portuguese Municipalities Launch Summer Sports and Family Programs

The municipality of Covilhã will run its ‘Verão em Família’ programme from 12 June to 18 July, offering Friday evening activities such as karate, tai chi, kempo, chess, checkers, roller‑skating, curling, basketball, a boot‑camp and water games. The initiative aims to encourage physical activity, healthy habits and social interaction, in partnership with local clubs and the GNR.

Penafiel has opened registration for its 2026 summer camps – ‘Férias Educativas’ and ‘Férias Desportivas’ – targeting children aged 6‑15. Sessions run from 6 July to 14 August, with weekly fees of €30 and discounts for families with multiple children or holders of the municipal card. The programmes provide educational, cultural and sporting activities to occupy youths during school holidays.

Both municipalities view the events as a way to promote leisure, learning and community cohesion during the summer months.
