Portuguese municipalities open higher education scholarship applications
Municipalities in Portugal have opened application periods for higher education scholarships to support students facing economic difficulties.
The Amadora City Council has launched applications for its municipal scholarship program, which includes Study Scholarships, Merit Scholarships, and Artistic Master's Scholarships. The program is open to students in both public and private higher education. Study and Merit Scholarships are valued at 35% of the 2026 Social Support Index (IAS), totaling 1,879.96 euros per year, paid in two semesters. Additionally, four Artistic Master's Scholarships—the António Rosado, Tiago Rodrigues, Cinema, and Dance scholarships—offer 10,000 euros over two years for residents pursuing master's degrees abroad in music, theater, cinema, or dance. Applications are accepted until October 30, 2026.
In Cartaxo, the City Council is also offering scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year. These are aimed at residents who demonstrate academic achievement but lack the economic means to continue higher education. To qualify, applicants must have resided in Cartaxo for more than two years and have a per capita household income not exceeding the national minimum wage. Applications for the Cartaxo program run from September 1 to November 15, 2026.
