Portuguese municipalities strengthen emergency response protocols

Municipalities in Portugal are strengthening partnerships with emergency and social assistance organizations to enhance civil protection and support for vulnerable populations.

In Évora, the City Council and the Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Évora signed a collaboration protocol to increase annual financial support. The annual funding for the volunteer firefighters will rise from 195,000 euros to 240,000 euros. Additionally, the municipality will cover insurance costs for the association and fulfill obligations regarding the funding of Permanent Intervention Teams.

In Lisbon, the City Council and the Portuguese Red Cross have renewed a protocol to coordinate emergency responses and social aid. This agreement covers rescue operations, victim transport, and evacuations during accidents or catastrophes. It also includes logistical support for population support centers, providing first aid, psychosocial support, and essential goods such as food and clothing. The partnership specifically addresses contingency plans for cold waves to assist homeless populations and ensures coordinated responses during major public events.
