Portuguese municipalities welcome dam sale tax collection

Ten municipalities in the Bragança and Vila Real districts have welcomed the start of the tax liquidation process by the Tax and Customs Authority regarding the sale of six hydroelectric dams. The sale involves the transfer of these assets from EDP to Engie.

In a joint statement, the mayors of Alfândega da Fé, Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Miranda do Douro, Mirandela, Mogadouro, Murça, Torre de Moncorvo, and Vila Flor described the collection as a matter of “fiscal and territorial justice.” The local leaders emphasized that the taxes are a necessary obligation resulting from the operation and represent respect for the territories that have hosted these infrastructures and their impacts for decades.

The municipalities expressed their commitment to maintaining a vigilant and united position to ensure the full and effective collection of all legally due taxes.
