Portuguese pilots union declines to join June 3 general strike

The Sindicato dos Pilotos da Aviação Civil (SPAC) announced it will not take part in the nationwide general strike scheduled for 3 June 2026, which is aimed at protesting the government's new labour package. SPAC president Hélder Santinhos said the timing of the upcoming strike was not appropriate, although the union reserves the right to future actions. He added that the recent amendments to the labour package were insufficient for SPAC to support the strike.

The Sindicato Nacional do Pessoal de Voo da Aviação Civil (SNPVAC) has approved participation in the strike, and the CGTP submitted a pre‑notice of a general strike for the same date after negotiations with the government ended without an agreement. The government recently approved a proposal to revise the labour law, which will be debated in parliament, and the announcement was made by Labour Minister Rosário Palma Ramalho.
