Portuguese players advance in European Table Tennis Championships

Portuguese table tennis players Marcos Freitas, João Geraldo, and Jieni Shao have advanced to the round of 32 at the European Championships in Ljubljana.

In the men's singles, Marcos Freitas defeated Hungary's Csaba Andras 4-1, while João Geraldo secured a 4-0 victory over Turkey's Gorkem Ocal. In the women's singles, Jieni Shao moved forward with a 4-0 win against Norway's Martine Toftaker.

Other Portuguese results included Tiago Apolónia losing 4-0 to France's Alexis Lebrun, Matilde Pinto falling 4-2 to Prithika Pavade, and Fu Yu losing 4-1 to Slovenia's Ana Tofant. In mixed doubles, João Geraldo and Mariana Santa Comba reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Sweden's Kristian Karlsson and Christina Kallberg.
