Portuguese police inspector linked to Doyen in Football Leaks probe
Newly revealed emails have exposed improper contact between a chief inspector of the Portuguese Judiciary Police (PJ) and representatives of Doyen, an investment group linked to football, during the Football Leaks investigation.
Documents indicate that Rogério Bravo, a former PJ inspector-in-chief, provided legal advice to Doyen's legal representative and drafted a formal request intended for the then Attorney General of the Republic, Joana Marques Vidal. Bravo reportedly sent the draft to Doyen's lawyer via his personal email, requesting that the true origin of the document be concealed to avoid incidents. The proposed measures included lifting judicial secrecy and accessing case files related to the investigation into Rui Pinto, the individual behind the Football Leaks platform.
Furthermore, the correspondence suggests a potential exchange of information between the Portuguese police and private investigators hired by Doyen to identify the source of the leaks. While the Public Ministry previously investigated aspects of these interactions, the inquiry was archived due to insufficient evidence of criminal activity. Bravo, who left the PJ in 2023, has defended his actions, stating they were intended to assist the complaining company and contribute to the criminal investigation, and maintained that he never finalized the proposed contact with the Attorney General's office.
